Have you made your resolution(s) for 2010?  We hear it every year from friends, family and the media.  Have you made a resolution?  What is yours? Lose weight?  Change jobs?  Eat healthier?  Exercise?  There are a multitude of choices that we could make to improve our lives, but once we make those choices do we stick with them?  I am afraid that I don’t.  My resolution for 2009 was to exercise more.  My goal was to ride my bike at least twice a week for 30 minutes each day.  I will admit that I rode my bike twice the entire year for 30 minutes.  How easy it is to not make time, to find excuses not to follow through.

I recently heard a sermon about the Dark Night of the Soul.  The points that the pastor brought out were: (1) keep walking (with God), (2) not to make your own light (which meant not to rely on yourself) and (3) lean on Jesus.  I think those would be good New Year’s resolutions to make, don’t you?  Focusing on God whatever the circumstance; sounds easy doesn’t it?  But then, our human nature kicks in and we think we have to solve all our problems by ourselves.  We want to be self reliant. Will I keep these resolutions?  Will you?  Can I make a conscious effort daily to follow these three points?  I can if I stay focused on God and don’t allow myself to be distracted by all the outside pressures and influences that Satan so conveniently puts in our way.  My prayer and resolution for the New Year is to walk closer with God, not to rely on myself or others and to always lean on Jesus.

Whatever 2010 may bring your way, please remember these words from Isaiah 50 vs 10-11.

“Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light?  Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled.  This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.”

Trust in the name of the Lord always and stay focused on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I hope you have a wonderful 2010.  Happy New Year!!!
