WMU News

Allow me to wear two hats today.  First, I’ll describe my WMU hat.  Woman’s Missionary Union has been the avenue for missions’ education and support for 125 years now.  We’re responsible for keeping missions projects and value of them at the forefront of our congregations.  We provide support both physically and financially for missionaries worldwide.  It is the heart of a congregation, I believe.

My second hat is that of chairman of the Nominating Committee.

Our group has worked all of last year on a Committee Handbook to guide our members to serve on various committees and ministries.  The deacons also challenged us to look at committees by evaluating a need for replacing, combining, eliminating and/or deleting responsibilities.  Little did I know what a challenge they handed to us!  But isn’t that how life is?

Evaluating, replacing old with new, combining duties or households or families, eliminating or deleting aspects of our daily lives?  This Committee Handbook was not completed in one year, but we’re going to try out some of the changes, evaluate what worked or didn’t work, then rewrite by next year… just like in our own lives.  Thanks for your input and patience as we have approached this responsibility given by our deacons.

If I have learned anything about this process, it is that we all have gifts.  We all have a mandate through the Great Commission.  We all have responsibilities as Christians to serve others.  We all love First Baptist Church of Dobson.  WOW, what power that brings to the table!

In Ecclesiastes 11:4, we read,” If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.”  The road wasn’t always easy, but the end goal was always there.  We had a need and we had to fill it.  Philippians 4:13 gained new meaning  for me:  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Maybe you will also take that to heart as you agree to service when a member of our committee asks you to serve HIM here at DFBC.
